Event Description
Tres Vidas , a program that combines theatre, music, and Latin culture, will be performed by the acclaimed chamber musicians, Core Ensemble, with special guest actress Desiree Rodriguez, on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. The lives and times of three significant women: painter Frida Kahlo of Mexico, peasant activist Rufina Amaya of El Salvador, and poet Alfonsina Storni of Argentina will be portrayed through singing of traditional Mexican folk songs as well as Argentinean popular and tango songs.

The chamber music theatre work includes storylines of Kahlo’s dramatic and passionate relationship with painter Diego Rivera; Amaya’s astounding singular survival of the massacre at El Mozote; and Storni’s lifelong challenges as Argentina’s first great feminist poet. Tres Vidas presents dramatic situations timeless in their emotional appeal and connection to audiences across all gender and ethnic spectrums.

Ms. Rodriguez, accompanied by the Core Ensemble, comprised of Katie Schlaikjer, cello; Hugh Hinton, piano; and Michael Parola, percussion, the production is original, educational, and entertaining. The Core Ensemble has traveled throughout the nation and internationally to venues in Australia, Russia, Ukraine, the Caribbean, and England. The award-winning ensemble has produced nine theatre works and has toured for ten years. The ensemble was the recipient of the 2000 Eugene McDermott Award for Excellence in the Arts awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and it has received support from the Florida Department of Cultural Affairs, New England Foundation for the Arts, Palm Beach County Cultural Council, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and the Virgil Thomson Foundation.
